18 House Republicans urge Speaker not to repeal IRA

On August 6, 18 House Republicans, including Andrew Garbarino (NY), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR), and Erin Houchin (IN), sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson urging him to protect the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) amid discussions about its potential repeal.

On August 6, 18 House Republicans, including Andrew Garbarino (NY), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR), and Erin Houchin (IN), sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson asking him to preserve the IRA after hearing concerns about repeal.

“We hear from industry and our constituents who fear the energy tax regime will once again be turned on its head due to Republican repeal efforts,” the letter reads.

The group of congresspeople point out that they still think the IRA is “deeply flawed” and “will prevent the development of lifesaving cures, empower the IRS to harass small businesses and distort energy markets,” but that preservation is necessary for business and market certainty.

“Prematurely repealing energy tax credits, particularly those used to justify investments that already broke ground, would undermine private investments and stop development that is already ongoing. A full repeal would create a worst-case scenario where we would have spent billions of taxpayer dollars and received next to nothing in return.”

The letter also emphasizes that the IRA has created good jobs and spurred investment in Republican districts.
