Massachusetts Legislature reaches landmark deal on energy legislation, Ceres applauds climate progress

The legislation aims to responsibly accelerate the development of clean energy infrastructure and draw new investments into the state’s clean power, transportation, and building sectors.

The Massachusetts Legislature has reached a pivotal agreement on energy legislation to bolster the state’s role as a climate leader. Ceres, a prominent sustainability advocacy group, praised the bipartisan move, which includes major reforms to streamline permitting and siting processes. The legislation aims to responsibly accelerate the development of clean energy infrastructure and draw new investments into the state’s clean power, transportation, and building sectors.

With a vote anticipated this week, the bill represents a significant step toward advancing Massachusetts’ climate agenda. “Ceres and the businesses we work with are grateful that House and Senate negotiators were able to reach a deal and today advance legislation that fortifies Massachusetts as a climate leader,” stated Rishi Reddi, Ceres’ senior advisor for Northeast state policy.

According to Reddi, the legislation will help the Commonwealth fully leverage the national clean energy boom by facilitating essential technologies that protect the economy and the climate. By focusing on clean power, clean transportation, and sustainable buildings, the legislation seeks to drive growth in green infrastructure while safeguarding both ratepayers and local communities.
